North Korea on Sunday condemned a new agreement between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan to strengthen their military ties, saying it's an American attempt to create an Asian NATO.
Earlier in the week, President Yoon Suk-yeol met with his American and Japanese counterparts on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Spain to discuss three-way military cooperation.
According to the North's state media, the regime's foreign ministry spokesperson said the move reveals the real intention of the U.S. -- to create an Asian NATO to counter and besiege - in his words - Russia and China.
North Korea also said it threatens world peace and security.
