President Moon Jae-in will take part tonight in the Summit for Democracy hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden.
The Blue House says President Moon will highlight South Korea's progress in the promotion of democracy and human rights, and stress the need for international cooperation for democracy in other nations.
The two-day summit will bring together over 100 countries to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing democratic governments and how democracies can deliver for their citizens.
China and Russia which were not invited have slammed the summit, saying the U.S. is creating new lines of division.
The summit also comes after the U.S. announced its diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics over what it sees as China's human rights abuses.
