Archaeologists in Peru have unearthed a well-preserved mummy that is estimated to be at least 800 years old,.. if not older.
The pre-Incan mummy was discovered at the archaeological complex of Cajamarquilla, located east of Lima, and is presumed to be from the pre-Inca Chaclla culture.
Experts say while the exact age of the mummy is unknown, it could be between 800 to 12-hundred years old, with further carbon dating to be carried out.
What's fascinated the archeologists is that the mummy was found in a fetal position, tied with ropes in a oval underground funerary structure.
It was also surrounded by various offering materials, including pots, ceramics and gourds containing botanical remains.
