Current COVID-19 vaccines might protect against severe Omicron cases: WHO Updated: 2021-12-02 07:51:12 KST

The World Health Organization says the COVID-19 vaccines we currently have could be effective in preventing severe cases of the Omicron variant.
The WHO's chief scientist Soumya Swami-nathan said Wednesday that vaccines are likely to provide some protection against the variant, although more research has to be done.
That result is likely within days according to the WHO's technical lead on COVID-19.
The official said it could be possible the Omicron variant is more transmissible than the dominant Delta, but it's still unclear whether Omicron makes people more sick.
