The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy allowed several regulatory sandboxes to promote greener and innovative economic growth.
Fourteen such measures, including a self-driving library robot were approved during a meeting with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
It will cover pedestrian walkways with up to one hundred books for people to borrow at any time.
Under current law, such robots are considered vehicles and are not permitted to be on crosswalks and pedestrian streets.
E-commerce leader Coupang will be allowed to add a Hyundai Motor's Xcient Fuel cell heavy truck to its fleet, as such vehicles do not produce carbon emission.
Initially, logistics firms were only able to have new trucks as a replacement.
