Japan should know the identity of the person that will replace outgoing Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga, as the leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and prime minister-elect.
An election is starting around now.
Of the four candidates in the running - the two favorites are Taro Kono and Fumio Kishida, according to a survey by Kyodo News.
The first round of results will come out after 2 pm.
In case of a run-off, the final outcome will be revealed before 4pm, local time.
Whoever wins will lead the LDP in the general elections this fall, that formally elects the new leader of the party as prime minister.
