S. Korea expands its essential reminder service, GoodPy Updated: 2021-09-16 17:03:13 KST

If you had the Covid-19 jab in South Korea, you might have gotten this notice from the Interior Ministry.
This was sent through the essential reminder service, GoodPy.
It's a mobile service that streamlines all the notifications you need, from health checkups to traffic fines, in one single channel.

"According to the ministry, about one in five people in South Korea use this GoodPy service.
And now it is branching out even further to make peoples' lives easier."

"Our goal is to of course reach everybody in South Korea. On August 30th, we've added features to help remind people of stimulus checks."

GoodPy sends out essential reminders like those about vaccines to everybody, and people can sign up for other reminders, such as ID expiration dates, scholarships or health checkups, through Kakao, Naver or Toss.
Before, people had to sign up through several different websites to get all this information, and often get bombarded with unwanted spam messages, but GoodPy only sends out essential information.

"Usually I get all my notifications through the mail. It's so convenient that I can see all of them just through my phone."

"It's nice that the service is going to notify me when my passport is going to expire. Because if I forget, it's complicated to reapply for a passport past its expiration date. I also like that I don't have to be blasted with messages from all ends and can get my notifications from just one place."

The service is the first of its kind, in that no other government has ever collaborated with private companies to create a notification service on this scale.

"By cooperating with private companies, the government can provide people with services that are up to their standards, companies can contribute to the public good, and people can use this service more easily than ever."

"We were able to successfully form this GoodPy service because we've already had experience creating nationwide services like QR check-ins, vaccine IDs, and mask distribution.

The idea for GoodPy was first drawn up in 2019, but the pandemic has shown the importance of such services that provide streamlined, clear communication.
