Future of hydrogen-powered vehicles, hydrogen technology Updated: 2021-09-10 18:29:18 KST

Industries have put the spotlight on hydrogen.
South Korea launched a committee of 15 member companies including Hyundai, SK and POSCO earlier this week to help foster the so-called "hydrogen economy" in the country.
Mobility companies displayed their hydrogen vehicles at the IAA or International Mobility Show one of the world's biggest motor shows, which kicked off in Munich earlier this week.
So given this, is betting big on hydrogen the answer for future growth?
We'll delve into it more with Professor Hyunchul Shim from KAIST, or the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
Thank you for joining us.

Eco-friendly cars and mobility seemed to be the focus at this year's IAA.
Do you think hydrogen-powered vehicles stole the show? Why or why not?

What is the technology behind hydrogen vehicles? Could you take us through how this works?

How feasible do you think are hydrogen vehicles? Can or will they be a dominant means of transportation in the future? How do they compare with electric vehicles?

Korea's biggest automaker Hyundai Motor says it plans to develop hydrogen-powered vehicles and showed a prototype at the IAA.
Why are hydrogen vehicles the talk of town in Korea, while there's not that much of a hype overseas?

Then what are some key technologies that foreign mobility companies are focusing on? What are their mobility strategies for the future?

Professor Shim, thank you for your insights. We appreciate it.
