U.S. President Joe Biden spoke over the phone with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Thursday, for the first time since February.
According to the White House, the two leaders discussed their responsibility to ensure "competition does not veer into conflict," and Biden talked about the importance of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and the world.
The White House says they discussed both areas where their interests converge and where they diverge and agreed to engage on those issues in a way that's open and straightforward.
Also, according to China's Xinhua news, Biden told Xi that the U.S. has no intention to changing its stance on the "one China" policy.
