Mu becomes latest coronavirus on WHO variant of interest list Updated: 2021-09-02 06:56:32 KST

The World Health Organization has identified another variant that could potentially have immunity to vaccines.
On August 30th, the organization added variant B-dot-1-dot-6-2-1 labeled as the Mu variant to the "variant of interest" list saying “The Mu variant has a constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape.”
This strain was spotted in January this year in Colombia, and while it's makes up less than zero.one percent of cases worldwide, it is behind 34 percent of all infections in Colombia.
The WHO is currently watching five VOI's or variants of interest, including the Lambda variant.
