New U.S. bill lacks minimum limit for USFK troop level due to lack for need: source Updated: 2021-08-31 19:56:13 KST

A new draft bill on the U.S. defense budget does not specify a lower limit for the number of U.S. troops stationed in South Korea as the Biden administration has no plans to reduce troop levels in the country.
U.S. Congress had prohibited the use of the defense budget to reduce the size of U.S. Forces Korea for three straight years through its annual National Defense Authorization Act.
But according to Voice of America on Monday, the draft NDAA for the 2022 fiscal year does not have such a clause.
There were voices of concern that the Biden administration could reduce the number of American troops in South Korea, but sources familiar with Congress said the clause had only been added previously to prevent the former Trump administration from reducing troop numbers.
