Tokyo is grappling with an uptick in daily COVID-19 infections as the Olympics enter their second week.
On Sunday, the city reported 3,58 new cases, the highest tally for any Sunday since the pandemic began.
Daily cases topped three-thousand for the fifth consecutive day.
The average number over the past seven days was over 3,100 compared to the 14-hundred seen a week earlier.
Cases are also rising across Japan due to the Delta variant.
The number of new cases in Japan has exceeded 10-thousand for four straight days.
