S. Korea in early stages of Delta influx: Health authorities Updated: 2021-06-25 06:00:42 KST

A total of 190 cases of the Delta strain so far have been identified in South Korea.
The World Health Organization last week said that the highly contagious strain of Covid-19 first found in India, the Delta variant, is now growing to be the globally dominant variant of the virus.
South Korea's health authorities on Thursday said the country is in the early stages of a Delta influx,.. with three more local transmissions of the Delta strain reported on Thursday.

"Despite the low percentage of Delta-type viruses, the risk of inflow or transmission still exists. So we need to keep monitoring and analyzing this situation and strengthen the necessary measures if the risk increases."

South Korea reported 610 cases of Covid-19 on Thursday.
The case tally has been over 600 for two days in a row.

"In the past week, 11-percent of the cluster infections, or 362 people have been infected in crowded facilities, and most from private academies, singing rooms, and bars."

When it comes to vaccinations, South Korea as of Thursday has given at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine to 29.5 percent of the population.
8.6 percent of the population are now fully vaccinated.
Health authorities have said that vaccines are just as effective against the Delta variants as they are against other variants.
And more vaccine doses are on the way.
A batch of 56-thousand doses of the Moderna vaccine have arrived at Incheon International Airport on Thursday.
These will be doled out to those awaiting their second round of inoculations.
The government has promised to bring in 80 million doses during the third quarter, including 10 million by the end of July.
