Lego Group to sell products with bricks made from recycled plastic bottles Updated: 2021-06-24 06:55:21 KST

Lego is going green.
Instead of using oil-based plastic, the Danish toymaker said Wednesday that it will sell products with bricks made from recycled plastic bottles in 18 to 24 months.
The recycled material that the company will use will be from plastic bottles that are proven safe for beverages in Europe and the U.S.

"Well, that tells something about how the material is used previously. You know if you're going to drink a fizzy drink or a bottle of water out of that, then it says something about the safety and the quality of the material for use."

Lego said last year that it would invest 400 million U.S. dollars over three years,, in order to entirely switch the existing plastic bricks to sustainable materials by the end of the decade.
In manufacturing its products, the company uses some 100-thousand tons of plastic each year.
