President Moon Jae-in on this Monday has kicked off his state visit to Austria.
The first South Korean leader to make a state visit to the landlocked East Alpine country, President Moon began the day after a welcome with military honors, a one-on-one with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen. Just minutes ago, Presidents Moon and Van der Bellen started a joint press conference.

So, Yoo could you give us the details on the welcoming ceremony? And what did the two leaders discuss during their bilateral summit?


Connyoung, the welcoming ceremony took place at a plaza in the Hofburg Palace, which is the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen.
President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook were greeted by the Austrian President and his wife Doris Schmidauer .
They walked down the red carpet and stood in front of the palace for a photo shoot before going into President Van der Bellen's office.
In the office, they shared a brief 20-minute conversation before going into the bilateral summit.

The two leaders discussed ways to develop their countries' ties to a future oriented partnership.
They agreed to combine Austria’s capabiliiesy in science and South Korea’s industrial capabilities to achieve win-win results.
In response to climate change, they agreed to work together to reach carbon neutrality.
President Moon asked for Austria’s support in his administration’s efforts to bring peace to the Korean peninsula, to which President Van der Bellen reaffirmed his support and acknowledged Moon’s efforts.
In the culture sector, the two leaders signed a cultural cooperation agreement in which the two countries agreed to expand cultural exchanges.

The summit was followed by a joint press conference where the leaders explained the results of their summit and then took questions from reporters.

What is President Moon up to in the afternoon?

President Moon is scheduled to meet with Austrian Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz.
Then, President Moon and First Lady Kim Jung-sook have been invited to a luncheon hosted by the Austrian Prime Minister.
President Moon will then pay a visit to Vienna City Hall, which will be followed by a meeting with the President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka.
Last on his schedule for the day, President Moon and First Lady Kim will visit the Belvedere Palace in the evening to take part in a state banquet.
President Moon will be in Vienna until Tuesday.
It's a landmark trip because Moon is the first Korean leader to visit Austria since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1892.
