COVID-19 has killed more than 3 million people, and infected nearly 150 million worldwide.
What's causing the infection is the rapid transmission of the COVID-19 virus,… and this happens when the virus binds with proteins in human cells.
Until now, it has not been known exactly which proteins fuse with the virus.
But researchers at the Institute for Basic Science in South Korea have identified all 1-hundred-9 proteins that interact with the virus.
Of these proteins, they found out that 17 suppress the propagation of the virus.
These proteins help prevent the virus from infecting other human cells.
On the other hand, 8 proteins turned out to be helping the spread of the virus.
"The process by which the virus binds to the protein in the cell is a very important part of the life cycle of a virus. We found over 100 proteins which bind to the virus, of which several were found to act for or against the virus."
The research team also said further research on the proteins involved in the proliferation of the COVID-19 virus will be of great help in the development of treatments.
"Since we can know how well the proteins bind at certain strengths, the findings will be useful for follow-up studies."
In April of last year the research team received global attention for analyzing the RNA transcript of the COVID-19 virus, the first in the world to do so.
