Because of the global semiconductor shortage, Hyundai and Kia have decided to temporarily shut down some of their factories in Korea next week.
That'll happen next Monday and Tuesday at Hyundai's number-5 plant in Ulsan, which makes the mid-sized Tucson SUV, and the Nexo, a hydrogen-powered crossover.
Also to be idled on Tuesday, is Hyundai's number-3 plant in Ulsan, which makes the Avante compact and the Venue subcompact.
As for Kia, it's suspending its number-2 plant just south of Seoul.
That plant produces the Pride compact car and the Stonic subcompact SUV.
Hyundai had to stop production multiple times this spring, but it's the first time for Kia.
