Israel-Palestine conflict enters third day with at least 62 dead Updated: 2021-05-13 10:00:41 KST

Israel and Hamas seem to be on the brink of an all-out war, as the deadly conflict entered a third day on Wednesday.
With the death toll now reaching at least 62, Israel reported its first military fatality, as Sergeant Omer Tabib was killed during an anti-tank missile attack.
The report of his death came shortly after Hamas confirmed its military commander Bassem Issa was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
At least 56 Palestinians have been killed, including 14 children, while six Israelis have lost their lives.
The international community is calling for an end to the violence, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who on Wednesday called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to the State Department, Blinken emphasized the need for "Israelis and Palestinians to be able to live in safety and security.”
Russia also released a statement Wednesday saying President Putin “calls on the parties to de-escalate tensions and peacefully resolve the emerging issues”.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is urging both sides to "step back from the brink", calling for "restraint".
China's special envoy on the Middle East also expressed "deep concern," and said Beijing would push the UN Security Council to take action as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden spoke up about the on-going conflict for the first time Wednesday after discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benajmin Netanyahu.
Speaking at the White House, and confident of a swift end to the hostilities, he also expressed support for Israel, saying "Israel has a right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying into your territory."
Despite the comments, Biden did not mention the Palestinians in his remarks, as both the GOP and the Democrats have been urging the president to show a more robust backing of Israel.
