Public opinion in Japan will swing in positive direction once Tokyo Olympics start: IOC Updated: 2021-05-13 10:00:42 KST

The IOC has expressed confidence the Tokyo Olympics will be a "historic" event, despite public opposition in Japan due to the spread of COVID-19.
During an online news conference Wednesday, a spokesperson for the IOC said he's confident public opinion will swing in a positive direction once the Games begin.
According to a recent poll, nearly 60-percent of Japanese citizens want the Games called off, with more than 300-thousand people signing a petition to that end.
Despite this, the IOC says plans are moving ahead and will start on July 23rd.
