Japan to extend state of emergency by three weeks to May 31 Updated: 2021-05-07 15:18:34 KST

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is on Friday expected to extend the state of emergency imposed on Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures until the end of this month.
The measure was put in effect at the start of April and was due to expire on Tuesday next week.
Suga is also expected to declare a state of emergency in Aichi and Fukuoka prefectures to take effect starting Wednesday.
