The World Bank Group says it will commit two billion U.S. dollars by the end of April to COVID-19 vaccine efforts in about 40 developing countries.
According to Reuters, the bank says the amount is part of some 12-billion dollars that it has made available for vaccine development and distribution in lower-income countries.
And the bank expects to increase funding to four billion dollars in 50 countries by mid-year.
The WHO chief, in the meantime, warns the vaccinations could be ineffective if the virus continues to spread and mutate.
He called for more political will to boost vaccine supply, pointing out the stalled intellectual property waiver on vaccines.
