The U.S. acting assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs is stressing the importance of Seoul-Tokyo ties in promoting cooperation between the U.S., South Korea and Japan to solve regional challenges, including North Korea's nuclear issue.
Speaking at a virtual seminar hosted by the U.S. Center for Strategic and International Studies on Wednesday, Sung Kim stressed the Biden administration is also focused on strengthening alliances, but also promoting ties among their allies.
Watchers interpret this as the U.S. urging Seoul and Tokyo mend their soured ties.
