A Japanese athlete-turned-politician has been selected as the new president of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Organising Committee.
Seiko Hashimoto is replacing the former male head who resigned for making sexist comments,even though she was involved in a sexual harrassment at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
With just under five months to go until the Games, Hashimoto faces the task of hosting the Olympics successfully during a pandemic and counting strong public opposition.
She vows to carry out a safe games for both athletes and citizens, based on her athletic background.
Hashimoto competed in seven Summer and Winter Olympics as a cyclist and skater.
