Seoul, Washington make progress on defense cost-sharing deal: U.S. State Dept. Updated: 2021-02-13 12:11:47 KST

The U.S. State Department says there has been progress with Seoul, over the defense cost-sharing negotiations for American troops stationed in South Korea.
The State Department spokesman said Friday that they could not comment on the details of the ongoing diplomatic discussions, but said the two countries are making progress, and are committed to quickly concluding the deal.
Sources at the department added that the Seoul-Washington alliance is the "linchpin" of peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia.
Earlier this week, it was reported that both sides were nearing a deal on the Special Measures Agreement, which has been stalled for around a year.
