Biden has big task from tackling COVID-19 to reviving economy Updated: 2021-01-21 10:05:53 KST

From attempting to tame the global health crisis to reviving the pandemic-hit U.S. economy, it's probably not an understatement to say Joe Biden has his hands full from the get go.
Making matters worse, Biden also needs to try and bridge a divided society that was further enflamed by the recent U.S. Capitol riot.

"He is probably facing the combination of 1861 and 1933. Lincoln facing secession of states from the Union and an impending civil war, and Franklin Roosevelt facing economic collapse and a worldwide depression."

First on his agenda is getting the pandemic under control.
In fact, in the coming days, President Biden is expected to issue a national mask mandate on federal property and on public transportation, including on airlines.
Slamming the Trump administration over its failure to tame the pandemic, Biden has already promised to administer a hundred million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in his first one hundred days in office.
He has also proposed a one.nine trillion U.S. dollar rescue package to combat the economic turndown triggered by the health crisis.

"We will finish the job of getting a two thousand dollars in cash relief to people who needed the most."

Starting Monday, he will also issue his so-called "Buy America" agenda, prioritizing U.S.-based suppliers and products made on American soil.

"There's no time to waste. We have to act, we have to act now."

Unlike now-former President Trump, Biden aims to construct and secure a new order in the international community by re-embracing multilateralism.
Biden's focus on alliances may widen the space of navigation in North Korea's denuclearization talks, but it's expected to take some timeespecially with Biden's plans for bottom-up diplomacy.
But Trump's impeachment trial is forecast to bog down the early days of the Biden administration, as the trial could tie up the Senate and delay the rollout of President Biden's agenda.
