U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly declared an emergency in Washington DC and ordered federal assistance to supplement efforts for Joe Biden's presidential inauguration.
According to the Hill on Monday the move came after DC Mayor Muriel Bowser asked the President to issue an emergency declaration amid reports of threats of violence before the inauguration.
The federal government is to deploy up to 15-thousand National Guard troops to Washington DC and set up checkpoints around the city.
Meanwhile, Washington DC Attorney General Karl Racine said prosecutors are conducting a full investigation into last week's violence on Capitol Hill which resulted in at least five deaths.
