Across the UC San Diego University campus, vending machines have been set up, stocked with self-testing kits for COVID-19.
Students can use a nasal swab on themselves, register the test on their phones.
Then, drop them off in collection bins next to the machines.
They can receive the results in under 2 days.
"It was a lot of fun, actually. It made the experience less daunting. We took a trip down here with a couple of my co-workers so it was kind of fun getting to pick it all out and all that stuff."
The student-suggested idea is part of the university's "Return to Learn" program.
Students must be tested at least once weekly at no cost.
It is so far the only college or university in the U.S. with this innovative system.
