At least 50 countries have vowed to protect 30 percent of the planet by 2030.
The joint effort was announced at the One Planet Summit, held virtually in Paris on Monday,.. aimed at protecting biodiversity.
During the event, leaders and development banks promised to inject some 14 billion dollars,to build what they call the "Great Green Wall".
Over the next four years,they will plant trees and grasslands in the Sahara desert, and create sustainable ecosystems.
They hope that the green wall will contain desertification in the African desert.
