Biden nominates William Burns as next CIA Director Updated: 2021-01-12 05:01:09 KST

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has nominated William Burns, a career State Department official, as CIA Director.
The two previously worked closely on various foreign policy issues, during the Obama Administration and while Biden led the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Biden noted that Burns' first task would be to make sure intelligence collection and analysis is not influenced by politics.
Burns is considered by many to be nonpartisan, holding key diplomatic posts in Democratic and Republican administrations.
