U.S. Senate passes defense bill to keep 28,500 U.S. troops in S. Korea Updated: 2020-12-13 09:16:28 KST

The U.S. Senate has approved a massive defense bill worth around 740 billion dollars, and it includes a provision that would prevent President Trump from withdrawing troops from South Korea.
President Trump has said he would veto the bill, but it has enough support in Congress that lawmakers could override his veto.
It passed Friday in the Senate 84 to 13.
Similar to defense bills in recent years under Trump, it would require significant justification to draw down troops from U.S. allies South Korea and Germany.
