Showers in inland regions until tonight…highs close to 30°C tomorrow Updated: 2020-07-16 17:12:16 KST

Time now to get a check on the weather.
Let's go over to our Lee Seung-min at the Weather Center.
Seung-min, today was hotter than yesterday with highs reaching 30 degrees in the capital. And it looks this heat will continue for a while?

Well, Jung-hee. That's because today is ‘Chobok’, which marks the start of the hottest period in summer in the Korean calendar. Koreans traditionally eat Samgyetaeng or Ginseng Chicken soup, at this time of the year. And just as the seasonal calendar says, temperatures are rising at a fast rate. Amid the sweltering temperatures, tomorrow’s daytime UV rays will reach ‘very high’ levels in most parts of the nation. So, please wear plenty of sunblock or protective clothing.

But there are still some rainclouds remaining in inland regions. Until tonight, there will be showers in parts of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do provinces and southwest regions. The amount of rain will be 5 to 60 millimeters.

For tomorrow morning, Seoul will start off at 21 degrees Celsius, Daejeon 20, and Daegu 17.

Western, inland regions will see some sporadic showers for the daytime. Seoul and Daejeon will reach 30 degrees, and Daegu 29.

On Sunday, a monsoonal front is set to return and nationwide rain is in store.

For Korea's neighbors, heavy rain has eased in Tokyo but showers will continue.

I'll leave you with the weather conditions around the world.
