S. Korea gripped by bitterly cold snap, but milder temperatures by weekend Updated: 2019-12-06 07:41:57 KST

It's freezing outside so let's switch things up and start with the weather this morning.
It's been the coldest day of the season so far with the mercury taking a huge dip overnight.
Let's go straight over to our Lee Jee-hyun at the weather center.
Jeehyun, we normally send you out on days like this so you must be delighted to be in our toasty weather center?

Good morning, Mark. Yes, I definitely am I hope your morning commute wasn't too bad. As you mentioned, many parts of the country had the coldest morning temperatures of the season so far. Cold wave advisories are in place for many north and eastern regions with readings down 5 to 10 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday.

But this cold front shouldn't last too long, readings will jump once the sun is full up in the sky and highs will rise above the freezing mark this afternoon. Despite the cold, sunny skies will dominate all day.

However, the air is getting drier. Dry weather alerts are in place in many regions, including here in Seoul. Apply moisturizer and drink plenty of water.

The cold snap will ease on Saturday and fairly bearable temperatures are on tap for the weekend. Tomorrow is Daeseol, meaning "big snow"according to traditional calendar, but central regions will only see mix of light rain and snow.

Next week, temperatures will be around or even above the seasonal norms so don't worry, this cold snap shouldn't be around for long.

That's all the weather update for now.
