S. Korea seeks to adopt ceiling on screen domination by big-budget films Updated: 2019-10-15 04:26:35 KST

South Korea will introduce a ceiling on the number of movie screens that can be allotted for a single film in order to prevent blockbusters monopolizing local cineplexes.
As part of a broader plan to promote the local film industry, South Korea's Culture Ministry will seek a revision of the current law, so a maximum of 40 to 50 percent of the total screens during peak periods can be used to show the same movie.
Under the roadmap, they will also set up a 20-million U.S. dollar fund, to finance creative works by small and mid-sized film productions.
