S. Korea to step up quarantine efforts against African swine fever to prevent deadly virus from entering the country Updated: 2019-09-02 07:15:34 KST

South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs says it will step up quarantine efforts against African swine fever to prevent the contagious virus from entering the country, ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
The ministry says it will intensify inspections of travelers' luggage and deploy sniffer dogs at Gimpo International Airport and Incheon Port.
It also plans to carry out a promotional campaign next week to warn people not to bring livestock goods illegally into the country.
Carrying undeclared overseas livestock goods will be subject to a penalty of up to 83-hundred U.S. dollars.
