Korea-Japan Hanmadang Festival 2019 kicks off in Seoul amid frayed ties Updated: 2019-09-01 09:09:08 KST

A friendship festival promoting better ties between Korea and Japan kicked off in Seoul Sunday morning, despite ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
This year's 'Korea-Japan Hanmadang Festival' was attended by Seoul's vice foreign minister Lee Tae-ho and Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, ( )Norikazu Suzuki.
The event is the largest and oldest cultural exchange program between Korea and Japan, and has been held annually since 2005.
The festival will also be held in Tokyo Hibiya Park later this month, on September 28th and 29th.
