Number of single-person households expected to keep increasing: data Updated: 2019-06-24 13:47:22 KST

The number of South Koreans living alone is rising more quickly than anticipated and the trend is likely to continue even as South Korea's population begins to contract.
According to a report by KB Financial Group, the number of single-person households in South Korea surpassed 5.6 million in 2017, some eleven percent of the total population.
It's also higher than the previous estimate of 5.5 million.
South Korea's population is forecast to enter a natural decline phase in 2028, due a steady drop in the number of marriages and childbirths.
As a result, single-person households are expected to take up 16 percent of South Korea's population by 2045.
