The ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit, which will be held in Busan in Nov. 25, is expected to bring together the heads of state, business leaders and press from 10 ASEAN member nations. It will be an opportunity to present a vision for the next 30 years of ASEAN-ROK relations and shore up ASEAN's support for Seoul's peace drive. On this week's special episode of "Peace and Prosperity" on the upcoming summit, we take a deep dive into the importance and economic potential of ASEAN and how South Korea and President Moon Jae-in's New Southern Policy are being viewed in the region. We also discuss how the ASEAN market could be a viable alternative for South Korea, which seeks to diversify its trade routes away from the four major powers, namely the U.S., China, Russia and Japan.
We are joined by Kim Hyung-jong, Professor of International Relations at Yonsei University in Wonju. To broaden the perspective, we also connect with guest experts on Skype, including Kanti Prasad Bajpai, Professor of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, and Ramon Pacheco Pardo, Associate Professor of International Relations at King's College London.
