President Moon Jae-in delivered his fourth commemorative speech marking March 1st Independence Movement. President Moon said he is ready to speak with Japan to improve the bilateral ties and expressed his willingness to put the past behind and develop a future-oriented relationship. In response, Japanese media reported although President Moon was willing to improve the bilateral ties, he didn’t have a solution to push ahead with his initiative. The Seoul-Tokyo ties are walking on thin ice following South Korean court rulings over forced labor victims, comfort women, and the latest controversy surrounding an academic journal written by a Harvard Law Professor. Moreover, the Biden administration is pushing South Korea and Japan to normalize the trilateral cooperation.
