The year 2020 was globally hampered and clouded by the COVID-19 pandemic. South Korea raised its global recognition with its COVID-19 response and made various diplomatic achievements through multilateralism. As for the U.S., it remains to be seen whether it will restore the international balance as president-elect Joe Biden promised a return to multilateralism.
The year 2020 was also a challenging period for the global economy due to the widespread virus. On December 17th, President Moon Jae-in vowed to make 2021 a year for South Korea’s economic rebound. He also stressed that the economic recovery would start when COVID-19 is completely contained.
