The U.S.-China trade war is still intact since it broke out in June 2018. Trump, who is an advocate of ‘America First’ policies, has made China a target of his trade protectionism, while China answered back with retaliatory measures, calling the U.S. trade policy unfair. The ongoing trade dispute will develop into a fight over economic hegemony. Countries that rely heavily on trade with the two superpowers are bound to suffer. The topic that took center stage at the G20 finance ministers’ meeting in Japan on June 9th was the global economic fallout following the trade war. We will talk with a domestic expert about the trade dispute that’s turning into the biggest game of chicken, and connect via Skype with an international expert on how other countries are being affected by it.
Some other topics to be discussed include Japan’s commercial whaling, the new U.S.-Mexico deal, and an anti-extradition protest in Hong Kong.
