The European Union has seen a flurry of confusion and chaos in the new year. Various forms of the 'yellow vest movement' is spreading across Europe in places like France, Hungary and Belgium, while the UK is seeing an increasing divide over Brexit. The European Union, which was founded in 1993, has been increasing its efforts to unify the continent into a single market with a common currency from 1999. But the recent populist movement and the anti-refugee sentiment spreading across Europe is furthering the divide. This is all the more reason that the whole world is looking forward to the imminent European Parliament elections set to take place in May.
