On "The Diplomat" this week, we meet Latvia's ambassador to Korea, Peteris Vaivars. Latvia is a Baltic State located in Northern Europe that boasts beautiful coastlines, thick forests and untouched nature befitting the nickname "Pearl of the Baltic." The capital city Riga and other areas are peppered with medieval castles making the country famous as the "Versailles" of Northern Europe. Korea's relationship with Latvia began in 1991 and met a turning point when the permanent Latvian Embassy was established in 2015.
As the first residing Latvian ambassador to Korea, Ambassador Vaivars is on a special mission. Recently, the famous Latvian poet Juris Kronbergs visited Korea through a cultural exchange project headed by the Embassy as his book, "The Book of Clouds," was published in Korean. The Ambassador, striving to promote Latvian culture in Korea, also introduces us to Latvia's unique potato chips and tea. Let's listen to the Ambassador who has been acting as a bridge between the two countries with a smile.
