Oversea travel was fully liberalized in Korea in 1989. With 2019 being the 30th anniversary, over 30 million people are expected to travel abroad this year. Croatia, in particular, is one of the holiday destinations growing fastest in popularity among Korean travelers. Also known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," 500 thousand Koreans visited the country last year. The country also opened an embassy in Seoul at the end of last year to focus on handling consular affairs and expanding bilateral ties amid growing interest among Koreans.
