Foreign Correspondents Ep.135 - S. Korea's lifting of abortion ban
Remaining controversies over abortion after S. Korea's Constitutional
Court rules that the country's ban on abortion is unconstitutional

South Korea's ban on abortion is set to be lifted after some 66 years in effect. On April 11, the Constitutional Court ruled that the country's long-standing anti-abortion law was unconstitutional, saying that it restricted the freedom of choice for pregnant women. With the abortion ban set to be lifted by December, 2020, many questions and controversies still remain in regards to abortion. The court recommended that abortions be allowed up to a period of 22 weeks after gestation, while some women's activist groups say women should always have the right to choose, regardless of how far into the pregnancy they're in, while also demanding the legalization of self-induced abortion methods. In this week's edition of 'Foreign Correspondents', we sit down with our panel of journalists to talk more about South Korea's landmark court ruling and address some of the difficult questions surrounding abortion, and how far it should be allowed.
