Foreign Correspondents Ep. 111 preview - U.S. midterm elections
The 2018 U.S. midterm elections and its impact on the global stage
The U.S. midterm elections are scheduled to be held on Nov. 6, where 35 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate and all 435 members of the House of Representatives set to be determined by vote. The midterm elections take place at the half-way point of a U.S.
president's 4-year term in office, and is often seen as a referendum on the administration's policies, while providing an early preview of the next presidential election. Since the Trump administration came into power, issues related to North Korea, immigration and health care have been at forefront of the voters' minds, which has been translated into high public interest regarding the upcoming elections. The election results could have a significant bearing on U.S. policies regarding North Korea, as well as the future course of Washington's trade war with China, which may directly impact South Korea as well. What will be the likely outcome of the U.S. midterm elections and what changes could it bring to current U.S. policies regarding trade and diplomacy? In this week's edition of "Foreign Correspondents", we sit down with our panel of foreign journalists to discuss all of these issues and more.
