October 24th is the UN Day to commemorate the creation of the United Nations. The UN was formed on October 24, 1945, with the aim of maintaining international peace and security after World War II. Over the past 70 years, the United Nations has been working to protect international peace, human rights, environmental issues, food issues, and other various world issues. In particular, Korea is a nation with close ties to the United Nations. After the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, the UN forces engaged in peacekeeping operations and interventions in the war, and did not hold back in humanitarian or economic support after the war. The UN is recognized as the most powerful international organization in the world. But there are limitations and problems in the UN. The most frequently mentioned issue is the "strong authority of the Security Council". In particular, the right to be called the "Great Power Unanimity" or "Veto Power" of the five permanent members is pointed out as the dysfunctions of the United Nations. On the other hand, some countries are creating controversy because they are showing signs of going against the authority of the United Nations. In particular, President Trump has withdrawn from the Paris Convention on Climate Change, which was adopted at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in June, followed by withdrawing from the UN-affiliated UNESCO in October ... as this week on , we will discuss along with our panels, from the meaning and role of the United Nations to the challenges of the present day.
