May 10th marks the first anniversary of the inauguration of South Korea's 19th president, Moon Jae-in. Throughout his term in office, the president has been riding a wave of unprecedented popularity with an approval rating of nearly 80% on average. His supporters stand in long lines to purchase merchandise related to him and have voluntarily raised funds to put up a congratulatory message for his 66th birthday, which was displayed at 10 subway stations across the nation and New York's Times Square. ▶Taekwondo, A Medium for Peace & Development

▶TNKR: Teach North Korean Refugees

The Unification Ministry's 2014 survey cited that one of the greatest challenges for North Koreans in the South was understanding the use of English words in the South Korean vernacular. To help them overcome the challenge and better adapt to Korean society, Casey Lartigue and Lee Eun-gu founded an English education center named TNKR (Teach North Korean Refugees). Nearly 400 North Korean refugees have received free English-language education at TNKR to date with some 700 volunteer teachers, including Park Yeon-mi, a North Korean defector and human rights activist who was selected as one of the BBC's 100 Women in 2014.
