Putting Haute in Korean Cuisine – CHO Hee-kyung | President, Gaon Society

In 2016, the Korean restaurant Gaon became the first culinary establishment in Korea to receive three Michelin stars: it was an achievement which elevated Korean cuisine to a new level. The secret to Gaon’ success in winning three stars for three consecutive years is very much in the hands of CHO Hee-kyung, the President of Gaon Society. Gaon Society is the restaurant business arm of Gwangjuyo group that also runs Bicena; it too had its name on the Michelin Guide Seoul.

Gwangjuyo Group has been at the forefront of efforts to revolutionize Korean culinary culture with its tableware brand "Gwangjuyo," top-range soju brand "Hwayo" as well as its restaurants. CHO is very much at the center of it all, bringing Korean tableware, Korean food and even Korean liquor into a wonderful harmony. THE INNERVIEW meets CHO Hee-kyung to share the story of her quest to bring a new, luxurious Korean cuisine to the world.
