The power of words stands out through multilateral diplomacy
A new chapter begins for Oh Joon,
the former South Korean ambassador to the United Nations

On The INNERview, we meet with Oh Joon, the former South Korean ambassador to the United Nations from 2013 to 2016, who was the first Korean to be the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the President of the United Nations Security Council and the President of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

He touched the international community through his unforgettable speech made to the U.N. Security Council in 2016. His speech had a high number of views on social networking sites and YouTube and spread to all corners of the world.

Many were touched by his sincere words which went "For South Koreans, people in the North are not just anybodies."

He has now completed his 38-year career as a diplomat, and is beginning a new chapter in life. He is set to spread diplomacy to others by guiding the younger generation to find their dreams.

"I've worked for the government for almost 40 years, so for the rest of my life, I want to show my love to society."

Out of his past activities in Korea, he was in the spotlight through the Top Executive Leadership Forum held back in January. During his tenure with the United Nations, he was the forerunner in dealing with the rights of disabled people. His mother, who suffered from Parkinson's disease, sparked his interest in the rights of disabled persons.

"My mother was in a wheelchair for 3 years, she suffered from Parkinson's disease."
