Chang Eung-bok, designing life with fabric designs and patterns

For the past 30 years, textile designer Chang Eung-bok has brought forth a wide spectrum of designs reflecting the traditions and sentiments of Koreans. She never stopped studying and exploring the valuable artifacts from the Joseon Dynasty in order to incorporate them into her design pieces for modern uses.

Fresh out of the College of Fine Arts at Hongik University, she built her career in the field of textile design before starting her own business in 1986 to unleash her creativity and show the world her distinct style as a designer. As there wasn't a market for original fabric designs in Korea at the time, she focused mainly on designing fabrics and patterns for interior furnishings for 16 years. Then, in 2000 and 2001, she became the first Korean textile designer to be invited to the world's biggest textile trade shows, Heimtextil and Messe Frankfurt, respectively. She continued to rise to fame overseas, and her creations were chosen as the S/S Collection Exclusive Design by Roche Bobois based in Paris in 2007 and 2009. She was also invited to display her works at an exhibition called, The Elegance of Silence, held at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.

Designer Chang is creating fabric designs and multi-purpose patterns that are regarded as works of art. Tune into The INNERview to meet the artist and designer at her workshop where the finest artworks are created at the touch of her fingertips.
